Orro Energy tips on how to make savings

It is easy to save on energy when you know what you should pay attention to. If you save on energy, you will help the climate, you will prevent pollution and you will be saving valuable resources. We are more than happy to think with you! Here you will find a few tips to limit your energy consumption.

Your heating:
It is easy to save on your heating bill. You can, for example, set your thermostat one degree lower during the day: This will save fifty euros per year on average. And you can save another 40 euros per year if you set the room thermostat to 13 or 15 degrees an hour before you leave or go to bed.
Has your home been built after 1994? Then it is more efficient to keep the thermostat at the same temperature during the night. Newer houses are very well insulated and often have more efficient under floor or wall heating.
You can also turn off the pilot light of your CH boiler in the summer and when you are away from home for more than 5 days.
By showering a minute less each day you can save on hot water. This will give a household many extra euros per year. Skipping having a bath and taking a shower instead will save between 40 and 70 litres of hot water each time. A water-saving shower head is also a good idea!

Saving electricity through lights and equipment
Making savings with regard to lights and electrical equipment is well worth your while. You can easily save money each year when you, for example, buy low-energy and LED light bulbs. Devices will use a lot less energy when you do not leave them in the standby mode.
Your energy consumption with regard to lights will be reduced the most when you replace standard and halogen light bulbs by low-energy and LED light bulbs. First replace the light bulbs that are used the most and have a high rating.
You cansave even more by turning off all lights when you leave a room for a short while.

Choose being energy efficient
Making savings on the consumption of electrical equipment starts when you buy the items: Ensure the device has low-energy consumption (on an annual basis). Efficient white goods can be recognised through the energy label A(++). Buy a device that is of the right size for your needs: a smaller fridge or television will often use less energy.

Smart use
If the device is in your home, make savings by using it selectively and efficiently:

  • Wash when the drum is full at a low temperature and only use a drier when you cannot hang your washing.
  • If you are not using a device, switch it completely off and do not leave it in the standby mode. Power-saver plugs, standby killers and/or a multiple socket with a switch are very useful.
